Jakarta,
the bustling capital of Indonesia, is home to over 8 million people and
is the country's political, economic and cultural center. A busy city
indeed - and with good planning and the right attitude, you can really
enjoy your stay.
The city was officially founded in 1527 when the harbor town Sunda Kelapa
was renamed Jayakarta (meaning great victory) by the conquering prince
Fatahillah. Less then 100 years later the Dutch East Indies company captured
the town and renamed it Batavia. At the end of World War II, with Indonesia's
declaration of Independence on the 17th August 1945, the city's name was
finally changed to Jakarta.
Today Jakarta is a cosmopolitan city where the best of both the traditional
and modern worlds can be found. Whether you are here for business or pleasure,
this websites has designed to help you make the most of your visit.
